Barbara Lawrence Award
The Barbara Lawrence Award celebrates the life and accomplishments of Barbara Lawrence by recognizing and rewarding the scholarly efforts of young ethnobiologists. The award was initiated in 1987 by Dr. Elizabeth Wing and others and is presented for the best paper or poster prepared and presented by a student at each annual conference. The prize carries a monetary award, made possible by donations from family, friends, and colleagues of Barbara Lawrence, and the F.A.O. Schwarz Family Foundation.
The competition is open to any member who is presently a student, or who has held a Ph.D. degree for less than one year. Any subject in ethnobiology is eligible. Single-authored and co-authored submissions are accepted. For co-authored papers, both authors must be students who would share the award OR the student must be the primary author responsible for the majority of the research and writing. Proof of student status or recent graduation is required for all entrants.
Student manuscripts/posters are judged on the quality, originality, and presentation of the research. Paper submissions should follow the Journal of Ethnobiology format and are limited to eight double-spaced pages (excluding figures). Students who wish to be considered for this award should submit their papers or posters to the Conference Organizer of the upcoming annual meeting. The conference "call for papers" will have deadlines and instructions for submission. Past recipients of the Barabara Lawrence Award are listed at the end of this section.
